SharePoint is a web driven application that relies heavily on a Database to operate.This can become very I/O intensive depending on how many users you have.
While it is possible to run SharePoint on a VPS Cloud Server, the intense nature of SharePoint dictates that we highly recommend a Dedicated Server for optimal performance. Otherwise, we would recommend no less than a 4 core 4 GB (4x4) VPS Cloud Server. Our best practices recommendation would be one server dedicated for the Web Services and one server dedicated for the SQL Database services.
